Semi-failed quest for the ultimate espresso spot in the clouds

Today's ride: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/56578826 . Short but very sweet...
Here at the legendary Manago hotel in Captain Cook, Hawaii. Amazing old hotel, run by the same Japanese family for 100 years. http://www.managohotel.com/history.html . Original decor, updated with post war formica tables. The legendary part is the pork chops served in the restaurant, which has pretty much three items: fish, sandwiches and whatever the other thing is.
Gorgeous ride from Kona this morning, straight up the hill to Holualoa, in the middle of the Kona coffee-growing hills and then along the ridge at that level to the town of Captain Cook. The plan was to stop at a (also legendary) coffee shop up there, have the ultimate latte, get on their wireless, update facebook, send some tweets - no not really, though it does seem weird to me just how connected we are, miles away from home. Phone works, internet connection is anywhere you like, daily blog entries for mum to read... Anyway it was just the coffee we were looking for. Unfortunately at the top we zigged when we should have zagged and missed the ultimate coffee shop in the clouds. And it wasn't cloudy (it was 30 degrees and sunny). Instead, consolidation prize, we ran into another coffee shop by the side of the road where they served ice espressos by making the ice cubes out of coffee! And had banana bread, bagels... I suppose I should mention the ride hasn't been very tough so far!
This afternoon we went down the Kealakekua Bay (the spot where the Hawaiians killed and ate Captain Cook in 1779 https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/James_Cook#Third_voyage_.281776.E2.80.9379.29_and_death ), packed into the back of a van, and did some snorkeling. Great. Just the kind of relaxed thing to settle the stomach after those pork chops!
Cathy has instructed me to say that she particularly enjoyed the slog up the hill to the zig, since she doesn't get enough opportunity to ride up hills like that in Victoria. Honestly though, it was gorgeous scenery, green tropical plants, some flowering and of course coffee bushes everywhere... I can see why people from the frozen north (Canada) like it here...
