I'm more or less recovered from my heat problem, though eating gingerly, so I went on the ride today. I'm glad I did. It was a day ride tour of 7 area villages, about 55kms in total. Very scenic, plus we were joined by a number of local riders. And the best part- getting a police motorcycle escort through all the intersections leaving the city. Very relaxing to take over the road and not have to stop at intersections. Lots of up and down though and I had a mechanical problem that forced me to drop out in the second half- a part on my front brake broke while braking on a steep downhill. Since I couldn't fix it, and given the steepness of some of the downhills still to come back to town (you need both brakes most of the time when you brake anyway), I decided just to catch a ride back. I was afraid I might lose the other brake as well under the increased use and stress, which wouldn't have been good.
The ride was followed by lunch at the (very nice) house of a cyclist and his wife, Guillermo and Marlena, outside Colima. Good day, though need to get the brake fixed before tommorrow, the last day of cycling.
